Fact: Patrick Cote is set to take on UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva atUFC 90. Now here's a quote from Cote regarding Silva that isn't quite considered a fact.
"We know how to beat Anderson Silva. The only way to beat him is to push the pace. Go forward all the time. You can’t let him get confident and comfortable in the centre of the Octagon. You have to push the pace for five minutes every round. If I do that, I can catch him. I’ll take care of him.”
Thanks to Cage Potato for the quote. Here's the question, does Cote have formula correct? For a striker like him-- in other words, a non- BJJ wizard type-- that may be the best formula to go with, though it's debatable if there really is any formula that will work to defeat Anderson Silva when he's upright. But the bottom line is that coming forward can be dangerous too.
Didn't Rich Franklin try that in their first fight?
In the end, Patrick Cote is a very good MMA fighter. Since he's not really one to take someone down and submit them, his game plan against Silva is as good as any.
That doesn't mean it will work. But he has to try something.
