UFC Fight Night 14 Review and Results : Anderson Silva KO's James Irvin

Fight Night 14 on July 19th came to us all by rather unconventional means. In other words, no one knew the event was even going to be put on and then puff-Anderson Silva is moving up to fight at light heavyweight.

Wondering how it all went down for the greatest pound for pound fighter in the world? Then keep reading to hear about that fight and more.

Jesse Taylor vs. C.B. Dollaway and how about a Peruvian Neck Tie?

Taylor managed to convince UFC President Dana White to give him a shot after making some changes in his life. In the end, these two fighters did a lot of jockeying for position on the ground, as two fighters with grappling backgrounds will do. Taylor looked like the stronger fighter; Dollaway, the more well- rounded.

And it was that well-roundedness that allowed Dollaway to finish off his opponent with a rare Peruvian Neck Tie.

C.B. Dollaway wins via Peruvian Neck Tie at 3:58 of round one.

Frank Edgar vs. Hermes Franca in a fight you knew could be good beforehand

This looked to be an interesting fight coming in. It turned out to be a pretty entertaining fight, as well.

Still, it was Frank Edgar whose hands were a little faster. It was also Edgar's kicks that were a little crisper. Although Franca landed some big knees on the night and nearly pulled off an armbar during the first round, Edgar's superior striking and ability to consistently take his opponent down and punish him, ala the Sean Sherk- Hermes Franca fight, was the difference.

Frank Edgar wins by way of a unanimous decision.

Brandon Vera vs. Reese Andy at Vera's new weight

This fight represented the first time that Brandon Vera had competed in the UFC's light heavyweight division. Coming in, Reese Andy had a big time college wrestling background, and we know how wrestlers tend to do in mixed martial arts.

Unfortunately, this was not the most exciting fight of all- time. Vera seemed fatigued-afterwards he noted that it may have been from the weight cut-and generally was inactive in comparison to the fighter we've become accustomed to. Though he did hit home with some knees and did gain a couple of takedowns on a very good wrestler in Andy, that was about it for him.

Andy, on the other hand, went for a takedown early and didn't do much else during the fight. He did get a little bit more aggressive at the tail end of the fight, but still was unable to inflict any damage.

Brandon Vera wins by way of unanimous decision in the least exciting fight he's ever partaken in.

Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin in the main event

"I have a Samurai heart and I am always prepared to go up and fight," said Anderson Silva coming in. "I'm ready to take on all challenges. So if James Irvin is the one, then he's the one.""

Of course, Irvin had other plans. "I can't wait to shock the world," he said.

Unfortunately for the man they call the Sandman, there would be no shocking the world on this night.

For the most part, this is what happened. Irvin threw a kick that Silva caught. Then The Spider threw a right hand that floored Irvin. A few punches later and the referee pulled him off.

Just like that, Anderson Silva is still the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Then again, there is Fedor.

Anderson Silva wins via KO at 1:01 of round one.
